Making Waves

The NewGen Film Festival brings a touring program of the Hong Kong Film Festival to Berlin. From 20-22.9 Alhambra Kino will show “Making Waves – Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema.“ There are sensational action films: THROW DOWN (2004) is the restored version of a martial art thriller by Johnny To about a former judo champion in the underworld of Hong Kong, TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (2024) by Soi Cheang is an action banger set in the legendary “Kowloon Walled City“ which was torn down in 1995. Beyond martial arts, there are four more films: in FLY ME TO THE MOON by Sasha Chuck, two sisters face their father’s poverty and drug addiction. LOVE LIES is about an online scammer, and in THE LYRICS WANNABE, a young writer tries to make a mark on the canto-pop industry. In TIME STILL TURNS THE PAGES, a teacher finds out disturbing things about a student and has to confront his own childhood.
