Making Waves: Hong Kong Film Festival

From September 20th to 22nd, the NewGen Film Festival will be bringing a selection of films from the Hong Kong Film Festival to Berlin. Making Waves – Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema“ at Alhambra Kino will feature sensational action films: THROW DOWN (2004) is a restored version of a martial arts thriller with Johnny To about a former Judo champion taking on the Hong Kong underworld, and in TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (2024) by Soi Cheang there is brawling in the legendary "Kowloon Walled City", which was demolished in 1995. But there is not only martial arts cinema: In FLY ME TO THE MOON by Sasha Chuk two sisters are confronted with poverty and their father's drug addiction, LOVE LIES deals with online scammer, and in THE LYRICIST WANNABE a young author dreams of success in the canto-pop business. In TIME STILL TURNS THE PAGES a teacher has to deal with the weight of his childhood when he finds out disturbing things about one of his pupils.
