filmPOLSKA 2025

A focus of this year’s FilmPolska, which will take place from 10-17.9 at 13 Berlin locations, is music: the retrospective is dedicated to Wojciech Kilar, who wrote, among other things, the music for BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA by Francis Ford Coppola, THE PORTRAIT OF A LADY by Jane Campion and the music in cult films by Krzysztof Zanussi and Kazimierz Kutz. There will be a film music workshop with Antoni Komasa-Layarkiewicz (IN DARKNESS, QUO VADIS, AIDA?) and a concert in cooperation with the Krzyżowa Music Festival. At the center of the competition are debuts and second features: in the essay film LETTERS OF WOLF STREET, Arjun Talwar documents his life in Warsaw, shows the Polish capital from the perspective of a migrants and talks to them about daily discrimination. In FLOWERS OF UKRAINE, Adelina Borets portrays the life of an unconventional woman in her mid 60s in Kiev – Borets lived with her after she had to flee from her hometown Mariupol due to the Russian bombing. A special program is dedicated to Polish-Scandinavian collaboration, and the program “Art in Cinema: Berlin Made Me Glad Sad Mad“ presents films from Polish queers and/or female artists that have come to Berlin – to the supposed “promised land“ – in order to work here.
