In cooperation with the artist program of the DAAD, fsk-Kino is showing several films by the Brazilian filmmaker Karim Aïnouz. The part fiction, part essay film I TRAVEL BECAUSE I HAVE TO, I COME BACK BECAUSE I LOVE YOU is about the travels of a geologist in northeastern Brazil. During the seemingly endless journey on a country road, the man, who remains unseen, records his scientific observations and private thoughts, encounters circus people, prostitutes, and other residents of the ghostly towns that will soon be evacuated. In MARINER OF THE MOUNTAINS, Aïnouz visits Algeria, the country that his family once migrated from to Brazil. In 2018, Aïnouz filmed ZENTRALFLUGHAFEN THF in Berlin, when refugees were initially housed there in an emergency shelter. Nowadays, the airport is the central reception center for refugees. Around 2500 people live in the hangars and container villages. And in PRAIA DO FUTURO a brazilian lifeguard follows his lover to Berlin but find he misses his other great love there: the sea.
