Womens' History Month

Sputnik Kino will be screening feminist documentaries every Sunday in March in cooperation with the Human Rights Film Festival. Among them is WRITING WITH FIRE by Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas, which won the audience award at the Sundance Festival and is nominated for this year's Best Documentary Oscar. The film portrays the brave journalists from the Dalit caste that publish Khabar Lahariya (“News Wave“), an independent newspaper and now news platform with 10 million users. BANGLA SURF GIRLS accompanies a group fo girls and women in Bangladesh who have discovered surfing for themselves. FLY SO FAR documents the consequences of the brutal abortion legislation in El Salvador wherein women can be charged with murder after having a stillbirth. And in FINDING SALLY Tamara Dawit traces the history of her aunt Sally, who became a communist rebel in Ethiopia when she was only 23.

Each screening will be accompanied by a film discussion.
