The Brotfabrik Cinema has a new open-air space behind its main building which will be used as a venue until September. From the 22nd to the 24th of July, three films from this year's Cine di Italiano festival will be screened, all of which are looking at rural Italy: The 2016 Berlin Film Festival winner FUOCOAMMARE has Gianfranco Rosi document the everyday life of the inhabitants and refugees on Lampedusa, intensively but without giving in to sensationalism.
GOLDEN DOOR (NUOVOMONDO, 2006) by Emanuele Crialese is about a farming family deciding to migrate to the "promised land", the US of A., and HOW WE LAUGHED (COSÌ RIDEVANO), the winner of the 1998 Golden Lion in Venice lets Gianna Amelio tell the tale of two brothers and the changes of the 1950s.
All films are shown with english subtitles and an introduction by curator Mara Martinoli.
