The Berlin Lesbian Non-Binary Film Festival is bringing lesbian, non-binary, trans, and intersex perspectives on screen for the second time at Sputnik Kino. With twenty film screenings over two days the number of films has almost doubled from last year. Almost all the films are current productions and span from the Filipino BILLIE & EMMA (D: Samantha Lee) set in 1996 about Catholic schoolgirl Billie who wants to be a rock star and falls in love with pregnant Emma, the documentary SHAKEDOWN (USA 2018) in which Leilath Weinraub takes a look behind the scenes of a lesbian underground party series by and for African-American women in LA, to the documentary SEAHORSE (UK 2019) wherein Jeanie Finlay portrays the complex situation that Freddy has to master as a pregnant trans man. Other films broach the issue of polyamorous relationships (GOOD KISSER), coming out as trans (BEING IMPOSSIBLE), intersexuality (NO BOX FOR ME), and lesbian love in the GDR (UFER FRAUEN – LESBISCHES L(I)EBEN IN DER DDR). Audiences can choose their favorites from the short programs and there‘s also a queer classic in the program with Monika Treut‘s GENDERNAUTS – EINE REISE DURCH DIE GESCHLECHTER (1999). The BLN will open with director Monika Hermann on St. Nicholas‘ Day at 18:00 with a welcoming speech at the Kino Bar. SAINT FRANCES (USA 2018, D: Alex Thompson) about straight single girl Bridget who works as a nanny and is dragged into the turbulent family life of Maya, Annie, and their daughter Frances begins at 19:00.
