Afrikamera Berlin presents contemporary cinema from Africa under the theme of “change“ from 11-16.11. Films by women and female-identified directors who question gender roles and power relations are at the center. In the opening film PROMIS LE CIEL, the French-Tunisian director Erige Sehiri contends with the topics of motherhood and self-determination and talks about the suffering of refugees from a female North African perspective. Sehiri will be in attendance. TIMPI TAMPE (Senegal, D: Adama Bineta Sow) critically examines the beauty ideals prevalent in many African countries, which are often pursued through dangerous procedures such as skin depigmentation, from an Afro-feminist perspective. In MAMBAR PIERETTE (Cameroon/Belgium), director Rosine Mbakam takes her audience into the everyday life of a seamstress from Douala – a plea for female self-empowerment.
