Bali Kino

30 Years of "Dogma 95"

In March of 1995, the danish directors Thomas Vinterberg and Lars von Trier wrote and signed the "Dogme 95"-manifesto, their "personal vow of cinematic chastity". Their films were only to be shot using hand cameras, without artificial light, on location, without special effects, and on 35mm-film in the Academy ratio. While only a few films actually followed the manifesto to the letter, it kicked off a whole movemt of filmmakers using more restrained means. From March 13th to 18th, Bali Kino will show some of the early films inspired by the manifesto, as well as the found footage horror THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT which was shot in a similar manner but broke the rule prohibiting genre cinema.
