The history of filmkunst66 began on October 1, 1971. On this day Franz Stadler, a pioneer in Berlin’s repertory cinema, took over the theatre in Charlottenburg’s Bleibtreustrasse. Very soon the theatre became an insider’s tip. Western, animation, and fantasy film festivals, self-organised retrospectives, and consistent high-quality art house programme has secured the theatre’s spot as a Berlin institution. In 2011, German film producers Tanja and Regina Ziegler took over the theatre.
