Unhappy housewife Thelma (Geena Davis) and her best friend, waitress Louise (Susan Sarandon), go on a roadtrip to leave their mundane lives behind. But during a stop, Thelma is narrowly saved from being raped, with Louise shooting the assailant. On the run from the law and Thelma's husband, the two friends try to make their getaway.
