Somewhere in the rainbow fog of the gay universe lies Planet Clitopia – hard to find for beginners. The cool and dazzling queen and queen reign here, who enjoy immense popularity. Quite unlike their daughter, Princess Saira: introverted and lacking in self-confidence, she doesn't even possess a magical labrys, the mythical double axe of the Amazons and an absolute must-have in this solar system. When Saira’s super hot bounty hunter girlfriend Kiki breaks up with her after just two weeks, the princess is destroyed. But fate gifts her with an opportunity to take her life into her own hands. Her ex is kidnapped by the “Straight White Maliens,“ a horde of self-pitying incels, and she needs Saira’s help. The fearful princess sets out to save her great love and maybe even win her back. On board of a problematic spaceship, that can neither remember Saira’s name nor respect female pilots, the Lesbian Space Princess embarks on the first great adventure of her life and the journey to herself.

This film has everything: bright cotton candy colors, lesbian princesses, aliens, action, sex, friendship, and a good sense of humor. No wonder the animated film won the Teddy Award, the LGBTQ+ award at the Berlinale, at the 2025 Berlinale. The Australian production of directing duo Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghase take us to a trippy animated universe and mercilessly shakes up the cliché box. LESBIAN SPACE PRINCESS is a classic empowerment parable. That’s why the story isn’t so suprising, but its simplicity gives space for the loving animation details and the quick and sharp humor, that turns (almost) every scene into an inter-gay-lactical banger.
