In FRIED GREEN TOMATOES, Evelyn (Kathy Bates) gets the motivation to revive her humdrum and frustrating marriage by listening to the stories of old Ninny (Jessica Tandy) about Alabama in the 1930s. In Ninny‘s stories, women stand together against abusive husbands and racism, creating their own independent future by opening a cafe and expressing their love, and also their anger, with food.
