At first, aging Broadway star Margo Channing (Joan Crawford) is flattered by the attentions of her (self-declared) biggest fan Eve Harrington (Anne Baxter). But as Even worms her way into Margo's life, it soon becomes clear that she means to take over the star's place in the limelight entirely.
