Alle wollen geliebt werden
The teen daugher wants to move in with the ex-husband, the boyfriend wants to go abroad and the patients are also annoying. Psychotherapist Ina wants to make everyone happy but is way over her head.
Berlin psychotherapist and single mom Ina (Anne Ratte-Polle) leads a stressful life. Her ambitious partner Reto (Urs Jucker) only thinks of himself and his desired professorship at the university in Finnish Tampere, rebellious teen daughter Elli (Lea Drinda) would prefer to live with her father in Finland, her demanding, selfish mother Tamara (Ulrike Willenbacher) is involving Ina in the preparations of her 70th birthday – and Ina‘s patients wait in the meantime. In addition, Ina has to urgently talk to her doctor about her blood test results on this sweltering summer day, but she can‘t find the time for it.
In her feminist tragicomedy, director Katharine Woll, together with screenwriter Florian Plumeyer, takes a close look at the normal everyday life of a woman of around 50. With Ina‘s mother, who gave up on her career for her children, and Ina‘s self-determined, free daughter, Woll puts the complex protagonist in relation to typical women from two other generations. On screen as in life, it still seems natural for a woman to take care of everything and everyone. Ina‘s whole environment has expectations and demands of her without ever questioning it, while Ina tries to please everyone to the point of self-abandonment. But over the course of this challenging day, directed by Katharine Woll with sensitivity and quiet as well as loud comedy, Ina goes through an evolution. By the time Ina defies conventions and loudly and uninhibitedly sings “I Believe in Miracles“ at her mother‘s garden party, something has been released within her.
